Our Philosophy.

All Dogs Deserve Love.

Dogs give people unconditional love. Part of Love Dogs’ mission is ensuring that we promote practices and behaviors wherein that unconditional love is returned to dogs by humans.

We Want Everyone to Adopt.

Love Dogs believes that by supporting adopters, we can place more dogs in homes and save more dogs from shelters. We treat all adopters and all dogs as individuals. We try to be conversational and non-rigid in our approach to dog adoption. We work with prospective adopters to help you find the best dog for you. We want to support adopters, not judge them. After you adopt your dog, we also want to be a lifetime resource for you.

Our Mission to Care for Dogs.

Dogs are part of the family, and we believe they should be treated as such. Everyone who cares for a dog has the ultimate responsibility to lead by example and ensure that the dog they care for is well-behaved and appropriately managed.

It is also the responsibility of every owner to ensure that their pet is sterilized, microchipped and wearing an identification tag. We will assist adopters by ensuring that all dogs adopted from us are sterilized and microchipped.

Love Dogs also seeks to promote responsible dog ownership by:

  • Helping adopters choose the right dog for them and their family. Likewise, this means that we will help the dogs in our care find homes that will allow them to live happy, successful lives. This means an open discussion with adopters about living situation, family situation and experience level with dogs, budget and time constraints, and ensuring that the dog has the right energy level for the adopter and their family.

  • Making sure adopters understand the time and money necessary for proper care of a dog. Dogs are both a time and financial commitment and they deserve lifetime care.

  • Ensure adopters are willing to provide responsible care for their dog in their home, their cars, outside and everywhere. Proper care also includes protecting their dog from situations where their dog’s safety or well-being is jeopardized.

  • Make sure adopters are willing to routinely vaccinate and provide medical care to their dogs. Love Dogs will recommend veterinarians and low-cost options to adopters.

  • Promote positive reinforcement training methods and recommend trainers to adopters to help them with training and behavioral issues.

  • Only adopt to those who intend on treating their dog as a family member. This means that adopters must:

    • Be ready, willing, and able to socialize, stimulate, and exercise their dog on a daily basis;

    • Never confine their dog to their yard at night or restrict the dog to exclusively living outside;

    • Ensure that children, whether their own or strangers, treat their dog with respect and kindness and understand that dogs and children both need to have their space respected;

    • Understand the need of their particular dog for care when they are not home, such as how long the dog is OK being left alone; and

    • Be willing and able to make a long-term commitment to the care of their dog, for its entire life span, including the care of that dog in the event that they have to move.
